Beginners Mind | Don't Know Mind

Debbie Rosas
Debbie Rosas wrote a great blog about "Beginners Mind," something I have been training my mind to do for some time now.  She discusses how she learned so many new things watching one of her students with a beginners mind.

Coincidence, I happen to be reading a book called "Only Don't Know" Selected Teaching letters of Zen Master Seung Sahn.  Which is about the Don't Know Mind.  Don't-Know mind cuts through thinking.  It is before thinking.  Before thinking there are no words, there is nothing at all.  And when you get to that state of Don't Know Mind, your mind becomes clear and focused.  I believe this is the key to getting to "Beginners Mind."  And when you enter the beginners mind, you approach it as if you approach something with the eyes of a child.  Then you get to experience things as if you have never experienced them before.  Experience people as you never experience them before. It's fresh and new.

So, if you are trying something new, like the Nia Technique, go in like the mind of a child, wild and full of wonder. With the Beginner's Mind you with no expectations, no judgments and you may actually experience a wonderful way of joyful moving in a playful spirit that will make you come alive.

Give it a try.
